Transitional Arrangements for Participants of IGS
Those who are residing in the UK on IGS visa can apply for extension of their leave to remain for further one year or for such a duration to enable them complete two years on IGS visa.
This transitional measure will only be in place after the IGS is removed from the Immigration rules that is (after 30th of June 2008).

Introduction:
The Home Office is going to introduce a new immigration category called "International Graduates Scheme (IGS)" with effect from 1st May 2007. It will scrape the Science and Engineering Graduate Scheme (SEGS).
This new scheme will allow the non EEA students, who have successfully completed a Bachelor, Master, PhD degree or postgraduate certificate or diploma on or after 1st May 2007, to work as employed or self employed in UK for up to 12 months. They would be allowed to stay beyond this period provided that they have switched their status e.g. work permit, HSMP, business man, Innovator etc.
Requirement of this Scheme:
The successful applicant will need to provide the evidence that:
1. He has successfully completed a Bachelor, Master, PhD degree or postgraduate certificate or diploma.
2. The institution, from where he has got the degree / diploma is recognised or listed with UK institution of higher / further education.
3. Has completed his course on or after 1st May 2007.
4. Intend to work during the period of leave granted under this scheme.
5. He is able to maintain and accommodate himself and any dependants without recourse to public funds.
6. intend to leave the UK at the end of his stay (unless has switch another category e.g. work permit, HSMP, Business person, innovator, student etc.
The applicant’s who have completed their course but still waiting for the degree can apply
Dependents:
Dependents of the International Graduates Scheme holders would be allowed to join him provided that they are fulfilling the criteria.
Switching Rules
International Graduates Scheme (IGS) holders would be allowed to switch, provided they are fulfilling the criteria of these schemes, in the following categories:
1. Work Permit.
2. Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP)
3. Business Person
4. Innovators.
5. Students.
